LAHORE: The mystery behind the knife attacks on women in Karachi remained unsolved as the police confirmed that the suspect Waseem, who was arrested yesterday from Punjab, is not involved in the attacks in Karachi.
DIG East Sultan Khawaja, in his briefing to a Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights, revealed on Tuesday that the suspect recently arrested in Mandi Bahauddin was not behind the spate of attacks on women in Karachi.
“There is no evidence that Waseem came to Karachi,” he said.
DIG Khawaja further claimed that the suspect used 16 different SIM cards but none of the SIMs was used to make or receive any phone call or text from Karachi.
At least 15 incidents of knife attacks on women by a man riding a motorcycle have been reported since September 25 in the metropolis, concentrated mainly in Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas,” he explained.
The police officer claimed to have detained 38 suspects in relation to the incidents.
He further told the committee that the investigation is going on and they are acquiring data from different sources.
