LAHORE: Following a court hearing for the petitions filed against 436 Pakistanis mentioned in the Panama Papers, Supreme Court (SC), on Thursday, issued notices to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and federal government for further action.
The petitions were heard by a two-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal. Petitioner Advocate Tariq Asad said that people use corrupt means to form offshore companies and use them for tax evasion. He asked for action to be taken against such Pakistanis. Justice Ejaz Afzal replied that action would be taken against those who possess assets beyond their declared source of income. He also said that NAB would take action against them.
SC also combined Jamat-e-Islami Chief Siraj-ul-Haq’s petition with that of Tariq Asad, noting that corruption is present in all institutions. It then issued notices to federal government and NAB.
In July, SC also disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case verdict.
